Al-Nisa" (النساء) is an Arabic term that translates to "women" in English. It is derived from the word "nisā'" (نساء). Al-Nisa is also the name of the fourth chapter of the Quran, which is a central religious text in Islam. The chapter addresses various issues related to women, including marriage, divorce, inheritance, and the rights and responsibilities of both men and women in society. It is an important source of guidance for Muslims regarding gender relations and women's rights.
Everyone is welcome in Al-Nisa!!! Women are at the forefront of the organization, and promoting sisterhood is one of our main goals, but we do not intend to exclude any group from participation in the club and are happy to welcome whoever wants to join. We ask that you bring your friends and anyone who is interested, regardless of race, gender, or faith, in supporting the growth of this safe place!
Men are not only welcome in NISA but are encouraged to actively participate, fostering a more inclusive and informed community where both genders contribute to societal betterment. We believe in distinguishing culture from religion and advocate for a comprehensive understanding of individual and collective rights and responsibilities within the Muslim ummah.
MSA or similar groups focus primarily on strengthening individual’s identity as Muslims. The overarching purpose of al-NISA is to promote and grow our Islamic faith, drawn from similar values and intentions held by other Muslim organizations. NISA aims to foster an inclusive environment, while also educating Muslims in our communities with a focus on particular gender-related issues rather general Islamic topics that arise within halaqahs and other events.
It all started on a coffee date! As we sat there sipping our coffees and engaging in deep conversations, we recognized the need for a safe space for women. A place that cultivates growth, encourages personal development and empowers individuals to reach their full potential. This realization sparked the idea to establish Al-Nisa, our very own haven dedicated to uplifting and supporting women on their journey of self-discovery and empowerment.
We established Al-Nisa to address the lack of opportunities and safe spaces on campus where women’s voices, particularly those of Muslim women, were heard and respected. Our goal is to uplift and empower Muslim women by providing platforms for their voices to be heard, promoting their independence and education, and preparing them to confidently engage with society. We aim to create a welcoming environment rooted in faith, serving as a safe place for Islamic reflection and solitude.
